No charges laid in fatal motorcycle collision

An investigation into a fatal motorcycle collision that claimed the life of a 36-year-old man has been concluded without charges.

On Dec. 23, police and EMS responded to a report of a collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV along the 4800 block of 24 Avenue South.

Investigation by members of the Traffic Response Unit, determined the motorcycle was travelling westbound along 24 Avenue South when it collided with the driver’s side of an SUV that was making a left turn eastbound onto 24 Avenue South.

Police believe speed was a factor and witnesses also reported the motorcycle operator engaged in a dangerous manoeuver, as he overtook another vehicle before striking the SUV. The driver of the SUV was subsequently unable to see the motorcycle and could not avoid the collision.

In 2024, there were six fatal collisions – three motorcycle operators, one pedestrian and two vehicle occupants (one driver and one passenger).
