Fort Macleod’s emergency department set for temporary closure

Fort Macleod residents are advised that the local health centre’s emergency department is set to temporarily close.

Alberta Health Services says it is due to a lack of physician coverage.

The closure is in effect as of 8 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22.

Nursing staff will stay on-site to provide support for long-term care residents.

Patients are being asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency, with those calls being re-routed to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge. Anyone needing care can access emergency services at Chinook Regional, the Pincher Creek Health Centre, Cardston Health Centre or the Claresholm Community Health Centre.

The emergency department in Fort Macleod is set to reopen at 8 a.m. on Thursday, January 23.
