New BookStop brings novel idea to north Lethbridge

BookStop is a temporary pop-up library operating inside the Labour Club Ice Centre until mid-April, according to the City of Lethbridge and Lethbridge Public Library.

“We’re thrilled to offer this new option for community members to engage with the library and its services,” says Jennie Sudo, community liaison, Recreation and

Culture. “The BookStop makes the most out of underutilized space at Labour Club and offers easier access to library services in a currently underserved area of the northside.”

Library members can use the BookStop to pick up holds, browse and check books out from a small library and drop off returns. It also provides the opportunity for residents to become more familiar with library services.

“As our city grows, we want to make sure everyone has easy access to library services close to where they live and work,” adds Terra Plato, CEO of the Lethbridge Public

Library. “Libraries support healthy, connected neighbourhoods and help communities grow.”

The BookStop is part of the library’s commitment to expanding access to resources and services, gathering valuable feedback for future planning and enhancing neighbourhood connections across the city.

“This project has been a true team effort of library and City staff to conceptualize and get the BookStop ready for operation,” notes Plato. “Our teams are excited to pilot this new service aimed at meeting the needs of our community.”

The BookStop follows the same processes as the library’s permanent branches. Membership is required for check-outs. Books checked out from the BookStop can be returned to any Lethbridge Public Library location.
