Cargill celebrates grand opening of Lethbridge rail expansion

Cargill celebrating the grand opening of its Lethbridge rail expansion Tuesday.

In April of last year, the company committed $20-million toward the expansion of its rail loading facilities to more than double loading capacity for grain moving toward the West Coast.

The investment was part of the growth strategy for Cargill’s agricultural business which consists of 40 facilities across Western Canada.

The Lethbridge facility handles canola, durum, and wheat.

Because Cargill’s elevator is located within the City of Lethbridge, the expansion required close collaboration between Cargill, the City, and CP Rail.

Local dignitaries, including Lethbridge Mayor Chris Spearman, were on hand for the ribbon cutting on Tuesday.
