Coaldale Community Fest celebrates 20th anniversary this weekend

A popular festival in Coaldale celebrates two decades of community fun this weekend.

The 20th annual Coaldale Community Fest kicks off with the Family Faith Fellowship Gathering from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Civic Square Atrium on Sunday, February 16.

That will be followed by a day rich with free family-friendly activities on Monday.

Coaldale’s special events coordinator Mark McIntosh says the festival is an ideal way to celebrate the Family Day long weekend. He invites everyone in Coaldale and surrounding communities to stop by and check it all out.

“With all our events, it’s just great to see the community come together and we get a lot of support from different businesses and organizations sponsoring, and all the volunteers that come out,” he told My Lethbridge Now.

“It’s just great to see the community have something to celebrate.”

McIntosh notes some highlights include free public skating, both outside at Civic Plaza and indoors at the Coaldale Sportsplex.

He adds a new event for this year is a movie night at 4 p.m. on Monday in the Civic Square Atrium, with attendees able to watch the Oscar-nominated animated film The Wild Robot.

The festival will also include fun like face painting, an exotic petting zoo, and wagon rides, among many other free family-friendly activities.

A pancake breakfast at the Coaldale Community Centre will start things off Monday morning, with donations being collected for the Coaldale Food Bank.

McIntosh thanks all sponsors and volunteers who helped make the event possible. A full schedule of activities is available at the Town of Coaldale website.
