Expired electricity meters set to be replaced in the city

Residents are being advised to keep an eye out for a letter about residential and commercial electricity meters that are due to be tested and replaced.

According to city officials, the properties that receive these letters from the City of Lethbridge Electric Utility Department are those whose electricity meters have met the 10-year life span. Measurement Canada randomly selects a percentage of expired meters throughout the city to test for accuracy testing and if they pass the lifespan of the remaining expired meters will be extended by eight years but if they don’t additional expired meters may need to be replacement.

The city is also required to send a sample of expired meters to an approved agency for testing.
