A local space has been “beautifully transformed” into a boutique experience, just in time for graduation season.
MyCityCare’s Cinderella Project and Tux Shop are back for students who might have financial barriers that prevent them from acquiring formal grad attire.
Program and Volunteer Coordinator Tanya Lister says it’s important to be able to step in and help students celebrate with their peers. “And to be able to walk across the stage – feeling and looking their best.”
Lister notes MyCityCare always appreciates financial donations from the community to help with this annual project. “We do cover alterations for the suits and dresses, so we want to be able to continue to help with that need.”
Photographers and hairstylists who would like to donate their services are also needed, as well as volunteers for various teams.
“We’re always looking for donations of gently-used graduation dresses and suits,” adds Lister.
Eligible students can register online at MyCityCare.
“Or if they have any questions, they can talk to their school counsellors, wellness team or advisors. We work really close with all the schools, so we’re able to help identify students that would benefit from the program,” Lister explains.
According to Lister, appointments for the project begin next week and will run until the end of May.
Last year, 57 students were a part of the project. “This year, we’re already up to 63 registered. We usually add a few once the program gets rolling. We’re definitely seeing an increase this year,” says Lister.
