MADD Canada’s 32nd annual Red Ribbon campaign gets underway in Lethbridge

Marked police vehicles in Lethbridge are displaying MADD Canada’s symbolic Red Ribbon throughout this holiday season.

The ribbon honours innocent victims of impaired driving while also serving as a reminder to always drive sober.

Lethbridge and Area MADD President, Anita Huchala says residents are also encouraged to display the ribbon to help keep sober driving top of mind.

She says they’ll be available at several community events in the city and around southern Alberta.

This year’s posters, bookmarks and coin-boxes also feature the Van De Vorst family of Saskatoon.

34 year old Jordan Van de Vorst and his 33 year old wife Chanda were killed in January 2016 when an SUV ran a stop sign and broad-sided their vehicle.

The couple’s children, 5 year old Kamryn and 2 year old Miguire later died in hospital.

The woman who hit them pleaded guilty to four counts of impaired driving causing death and was sentenced to ten years in prison.

Her blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was three times the legal limit.

The 32nd annual MADD Red Ribbon campaign runs until January 6th.
