Same suspect charged in suspicious package, arson investigations

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police say the same 29-year old man arrested in regard to a suspicious package at the police station on Thursday (Jan. 21) is also facing charges in an arson investigation from Wednesday (Jan. 20).

Access to the LPS building was restricted for about three hours on Thursday (Jan. 21) after a suspicious package was thrown into the front vestibule. The lobby area re-opened after it was determined that the package was not explosive or hazardous.

Now, police believe the same suspect from that incident also lit a fire in a planter outside the police station early Wednesday morning (Jan. 20).

Kyle Lowe, 29 of Lethbridge, is now facing charges of mischief and intimidation of justice. He’s currently in custody, and expected to appear in court on Friday (Jan. 22).

The LPS says it takes incidents like these two very seriously, noting that the safety of employees and the community is its top priority.

I started my radio career in 2015, shortly after graduating from Lethbridge College. I have a very strong passion for local news. Proudly born in 1994, I grew up most of my life in Sylvan Lake, AB and I've lived in the Lethbridge since 2012. I'm a below average golfer on a good day, I take as many hiking trips to Waterton as possible in the summer and I love my two cats, Outlaw and Jynx, and my dog, Maverick, more than most people I know. I look forward to providing accurate, timely news coverage in southern Alberta for plenty of years to come!
