2021 Alberta Summer Games cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The difficult decision has been made to completely cancel the 2021 Alberta Summer Games.

The event was originally planned for July 2020 in Lethbridge. It was already postponed once last year.

Rick Blakeley, President of the Lethbridge Summer Games Society, commends the Board for its desire to plan a modified Games for this summer. However, he says it’s just not possible to stage a safe, responsible and meaningful event as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Mayor Chris Spearman says he also shares the disappointment this cancellation causes for all those involved, but he says he looks forward to the opportunity for Lethbridge to host the Alberta Summer Games again in the future.

I started my radio career in 2015, shortly after graduating from Lethbridge College. I have a very strong passion for local news. Proudly born in 1994, I grew up most of my life in Sylvan Lake, AB and I've lived in the Lethbridge since 2012. I'm a below average golfer on a good day, I take as many hiking trips to Waterton as possible in the summer and I love my two cats, Outlaw and Jynx, and my dog, Maverick, more than most people I know. I look forward to providing accurate, timely news coverage in southern Alberta for plenty of years to come!
