LETHBRIDGE, AB – Albertans will be paying more to camp at provincial parks this year.
Camping fees are rising between $1.00 and $3.00 a night. The online booking opened on Thursday. You can book at site here: Alberta Parks Reservations
Provincial officials are expecting a record year for park visits, and say the extra revenue is needed to cope with the increased load.
The jump in camping fees is expected to raise about $14 million annually.
The UCP government also plans to hire an additional 50 full-time staff to help maintain provincial parks during the camping season.
Despite that, the opposition Alberta New Democrats are critical of the fee increase, saying the government hiked camping fees last year by $10 a night, accusing Premier Jason Kenney of “nickle and diming” Alberta families who enjoy the outdoors.
