New online map shows no hospital bed reductions in South Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB – There’s no shortage of hospital beds across the entire South Zone, according to a new map on the Alberta Health Services (AHS) website.

The map was launched last week. It’s updated daily to show exactly what communities have temporarily reduced their beds and care spaces.

Right now, those shortages are only happening from about Red Deer northward. All hospitals south of that point are operating normally.

Verna Yiu, President and CEO of AHS, said last week that these kinds of summer reductions happen every year – to varying degrees – to accommodate for vacations and any scheduled construction projects.

AHS stresses that 98.3% of its 8,500 acute care beds across the province are available, and 97.5% of its 1,200 emergency departments are open.
