LETHBRIDGE, AB – Finally after weeks of little to no precipitation, parts of southern Alberta saw some much-needed rainfall and a fairly decent amount for some places too.
The Stavely area saw the most with just over 65 mm Tuesday. In the southwest Beaver Mines had 61 mm, Pincher Creek around 53 mm and the Crowsnest Pass had 48 mm.
Claresholm received about 45 mm Monday as well.
Environment Canada says unconfirmed reports from social media suggest the Kananaskis area saw over 110 mm and around 90 mm fell along Highway 3 at the Alberta/BC Border.
This was the first significant precipitation since May in this region and will no doubt help alleviate the extreme wildfire risk for a while.
Some regions have since dropped their fires bans because of the change in weather. The fire ban which was in place for the Calgary Forest Area is no longer in effect .The MD of Willow Creek has downgraded its ban to a fire restriction and the Crowsnest Pass is now under a fire advisory.
Lethbridge was just on the edge of the heavy rain. We recorded about 20 mm here.
