A light-show in Alberta early Wednesday morning as over 12,000 lightning strikes were detected on radar.

The Weather Network says strong thunderstorms moved through parts of the province Tuesday afternoon and brought heavy downpours and toonie-sized hail in some areas.

The wild weather continued overnight and into early Wednesday morning when Albertans took to Twitter to share their posts during the lightning storm.

Of the 12,799 lightning strikes recorded, the Weather Network says 4,000 of them were in southern Alberta.
