Cold weather postpones tree collection in City of Lethbridge

Christmas tree collection in the City of Lethbridge has been postponed due to the extreme temperatures. According to the city they along with the Senator Buchanan Elementary School, who is this years volunteer group, are pushing Christmas tree collection back a week with collection now starting on Saturday, January 20th.

Those wanting to have their trees collected will need to have them put out in the waste collection location by 7 a.m. on the 20th. Trees must be totally bare, with all decorations including tinse and any plastic need to be taken off, the tree stand will also need to be removed.

According to the city in the past 30 years roughly 95,000 Christmas trees, equaling 1.5 million kilograms, has reportedly been kept from being thrown in the landfill.

Residents are advised that if their trees are missed on January 20th to call 311.
