One man was taken to hospital in stable and non-life-threatening condition after a serious water rescue at Keho Lake Saturday night.
According to Nobleford and District Emergency Services officials, emergency crews responded to Keho Lake around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 4th. When crews arrived at the scene they saw the capsized boat and man in the water around 1,000 feet from the shore, who is said to have been wearing a life jacket when the boat capsized. Crews from Nobleford and Picture Butte Emergency Services set up a technical rescue team made up of two water rescuers, while additional mutual aid was requested from the Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services, Champion Fire Department, Coalhurst Volunteer Fire Department and the Coaldale RCMP.
According to a post from the Nobleford department, “Once the technical rescue team was anchored to over 1000’ of water rescue rope, along with their water rescue PPE, and additional floatation device, they reached the individual. Once they were able to stabilize and safely secure him for pickup, Lethbridge boat reached the crew shortly after patient contact, and assisted in getting all 3 out of the water.”
The man was handed over to waiting EMS and then taken to hospital, while the water rescue boat from Champion brought the capsized boat to shore after it was inspected.
