Assault and weapons charges laid after alleged Taber break and enter

A Taber man is facing assault and weapons-related charges connected to a robbery involving bear spray at a home last week.

According to the Taber Police Service, on Thursday, May 9th around 12:55 p.m. police responded to reports that a man had been assaulted at his home.

A statement from police reads “The victim indicated that, while inside his residence, a male who was known to the victim entered his residence and pointed a handgun at him. The male demanded money and vehicle keys.”

Police say the suspect is alleged to have taken money and assaulted a woman in the home before attempting to steal the victim’s vehicle. An alleged altercation is reported to have happened at the car, where the suspect is said to have pulled a knife on the man who lived at the house and then attempted to spray him with bear spray. The suspect is reported to have fled the scene, he however came back when police arrived at the house. He is said to have attempted to run but was arrested shortly after.

“The male was found to be in possession of other stolen property. The handgun was recovered, and it was determined to be a pellet gun.”

Pedro Alejandro Friesen is facing over a dozen charges which include assault with a weapon, use of a firearm while committing an indictable offence, and possession of stolen property. The 26-year-old was remanded into custody and is next scheduled to appear in court on May 14th.
