Southern Accord Chorus scores a first-place win at regional contest

Earlier this month, the Southern Accord Chorus was awarded a first place at the Sweet Adelines – Region 26 Contest. The Lethbridge-based chorus has earned “most improved,” third and second place medals in the past, but first place is an exciting new achievement.

Southern Accord scored the highest total points for the two songs they performed against nine other women’s a cappella choruses from British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Musical Director Jill McLeod is extremely proud of the 23 singers who travelled together to Edmonton.

According to McLeod, the entire chorus worked very hard this year to improve their vocal skills and become better performers. “Four-part a cappella music is challenging, but creating beautiful harmony is so rewarding. It’s nice to be recognized for our efforts, but what we really love is to share our joy of singing.”

The 28 members of the chorus are from across southern Alberta, including Milk River and Vauxhall. The group performs at local charitable and special events throughout the year.

Interested singers can contact the group at [email protected].
