Next month, the Pincher Creek Pro Rodeo returns Aug. 15-18.
Activities include a parade, a kids’ fun rodeo, mutton bustin,’ a Western Market, pancake breakfasts, trick riding, a cabaret and a pro rodeo.
On Aug. 17, don’t miss special guests Calgary Stampede First Nations Princess Margaret Holloway and Calgary Stampede Princess Brooke Fielding.
Organizer Lynn Lievers looks forward to the entire weekend, “as we try and pack a lot of things in for the entire community starting Thursday with the team roping, which is open to anyone.”
Each year, the Pro Rodeo event is geared towards community.
“We try to involve local businesses as much as we can. Either with bringing in food trucks or we support 4-H through our concession or local volunteer groups through our recycling program, so they can all get a little bit out of it,” says Lievers.
Probably the highlight for most people coming to watch, Lievers notes, are the trick riders and the local team in the wild pony racing on the Saturday and Sunday following bull riding.
This year, organizers will try their best to have kids involved in as much as possible too, says Lievers, including a Family Day Aug. 18 starting at noon with free admission for kids.
There will also be a kids’ calf scramble to win bikes over the weekend. “That’s really fun,” says Lievers.
