Japanese ghost lore and legends featured at Nikka Yuko

Just in time for the haunting season, embark on an enchanting evening stroll through Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden, where Japanese legends and lore come to life. But be cautious, the yokai may be closer than you think.

Nikka Yuko has partnered with New West Theatre for the ultimate Halloween yokai experience. A night walk through the garden accompanied by yokai stories.

According to the Museum of International Folk Art, “yokai” is a catchall Japanese word for ghosts, demons, monsters, shapeshifters, tricksters and other kinds of supernatural beings and mysterious phenomena. “Yokai interact with the human world and spark common notions of frightful things.”

“Though some people prefer other words to describe yokai, people started using the word during the Meiji period between 1868 to 1912, when scholars began studying Japanese folklore.”

The night walk runs Oct. 18, 19, 25 and 26. This experience is $25 per person and includes admission, a dome experience, a cookie and a drink. The 6:30 p.m. time slot is the family-friendly version and 8 p.m. is for mature audiences (14+ recommended). There are a limited number of tickets available for each experience.
