It might officially now be fall, however that is going to feel short-lived.
A major change in the weather is forecast for late in the week, with everything from rain to wind and even snow in some areas across southern Alberta.
Environment Canada Kyle Fougere says conditions will start to change on Thursday (Sept. 26). “It just gets worse from there. As we get to the weekend, the first system will roll through and drag down some cold air and then a second low pressure system will move in that will bring precipitation which will likely turn to snow. It looks like basically Friday night into Saturday is when that will first happen.”
Fougere some areas, especially along the foothills and higher elevations, could see a fair bit of snow, especially for this time of year.
The map above indicates the most likely areas for snow.
He notes it’s these shoulder seasons that we tend to see these big swings in temperatures. “We can see very rapid changes, just like this week from above normal temperatures to what could be very cold conditions by the end of the week.”
Fougere says some of those areas could see a significant amount of snow this weekend (for this time of year) so people should pay attention to weather as we get closer to the weekend.
