A couple of members of the Lethbridge Hurricanes are moving on from the team.
Logan McCutcheon has committed to the NCAA’s Quinnipiac University Bobcats Men’s hockey team for the 2025-26 season.
The 21-year-old defenseman was drafted by the ‘Canes 60th overall in the third round of the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft.
In six years with the Lethbridge club, McCutcheon played in 299 career regular season games, scoring 23 goals and registering 124 assists, along with 32 penalty minutes. In 28 career playoff games over parts of four post-season appearances, the Saskatoon product had one goal and nine assists.
“It’s a great hockey school, they love their hockey at [Quinnipiac] and it’s a good program that won it a couple of years ago, so I think it’s really exciting and I just want to go there, step up and establish myself, it’s something that I’m really excited for,” says McCutcheon, who recently wrapped up his final season with the Hurricanes.
“It’s going to be different; there is a lot of excitement and definitely some nerves, so it’ll be a change, but I think I’ll adjust well and have a good time.”
During this last season with Lethbridge, McCutcheon scored nine goals and had 29 assists, with 10 penalty minutes, finishing eighth in team scoring and third in defenseman scoring.
“Being a Hurricane meant everything to me,” he adds. “Ever since the draft, I was welcomed by everyone here and to be able to be a Hurricane for my entire career, I couldn’t have asked for it any other way. It’s been unbelievable.”
During the 2024-25 season, McCutcheon set career-highs in goals (nine), points (38), penalty minutes (10) and in his plus/minus rating (+19). In 16 post-season games, he scored one goal and had six assists, helping the ‘Canes get to the Eastern Conference Championship Series, where they were eliminated by the Medicine Hat Tigers.
McCutcheon ended his junior career in fifth all-time in Hurricanes history for games played (299), including 295-straight games. He also ranks second in games played by defenseman in team history, as well as fifth all-time in defenseman scoring.
During his team with the club, McCutcheon was named the winner of the Joan Kobal Memorial Award for Perseverance, Deducation and Sportsmanship in 2023-24, the Rookie of the Year (2021-22), the Hardest Working Player Award (2024-25) and was a two-time recipient of the Hurricanes Scholastic Award, in 2020-21 and 2021-22.
“A huge thank you to all of my teammates, staff, office staff, coaches and everyone in the organization,” he says. “Especially a thank you to the fans – nothing would be possible without them, and all the players appreciate everything that they do.”
VOJTECH PORT
Defenseman Vojtech Port is also moving on from the WHL team.
He has signed a professional contract with HC Vitkovice in the Czechia pro league. The 19-year-old was drafted 49th overall by the Red Deer Rebels in the first round of the 2022 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.
From Jihlava, Czechia athlete was acquired by Lethbridge from the Moose Jaw Warriors in November before skating in 40 regular season games.

He scored two goals and dished out nine assists, along with eight penalty minutes. In the Hurricanes’ 16 playoff games during their 2025 run, Port scored one goal and had five assists, along with four penalty minutes.
During the 2024-25 season, Port set a career-high recording 14 points (two goals, 12 assists), along with 16 penalty minutes in a combined 59 regular season games with the Hurricanes and Warriors.
Throughout his WHL career, Port appeared in 149 games, scoring 10 goals and had 36 assists along with 49 penalty minutes in time spent with Lethbridge, Moose Jaw, Red Deer and Edmonton. He hit the ice in 36 post-season games, scoring one goal and nine assists, along with 14 penalty minutes and was a member of the 2024 WHL Champion Warriors.
In four Memorial Cup games in 2024, Port scored one goal and had one assist.
On the international front, he represented Czechia at the 2025 World Junior Championship tournament in Ottawa, helping his squad win bronze. At the tournament, the former sixth-round pick of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks had four assists and six penalty minutes through seven games.
Port is set to join HC Vitkovice for the 2025-26 season.
