Drivers could notice some traffic changes on the city’s west side over the next while, along with a little extra dirt being blown around by the wind due to construction in the area.
According to City of Lethbridge officials, in the Piers and Crossings subdivisions, there will be large-scale earth and lot grading work happening. This work will be done by both developers and their contractors and includes taking off the topsoil from an area and also removing native grasses from fields.
In Garry Station and Crossings construction on the new West Coulee Station Elementary School and construction on the new Holy Spirit Catholic School Division elementary school, has resulted in all-way stops and speed limit reductions in the Abitibi Road West area.
According to a release from the city, “These traffic controls were installed in May so motorists, pedestrians and cyclists can become familiar with the changes well before the West Coulee Station Elementary School opens in September 2025.”
Drivers are being reminded while out and about during construction season to maintain a safe distance from excavated areas and machinery working. Motorists are also reminded to slow down and pay attention to signage.
