River valley grass fire tamed by Lethbridge firefighters

Local crews tackled a grass fire in Lethbridge’s river valley on Wednesday.

Members from four Lethbridge Fire and EMS stations responded to the incident near Scenic Drive and 2 Avenue South at around 5 p.m. on July 9.

Officials say the fire was burning uphill through dry grass and vegetation, but “thanks to fast actions of 911 callers and a coordinated response by fire crews”, the blaze was brought under control, which prevented it from reaching nearby homes.

No injuries were reported, and no buildings were damaged.

FIRE BAN IN EFFECT

Residents are being reminded that due to hot and dry conditions, a fire ban remains in effect for the river valley as of Thursday, July 10.

The City is asking that everyone take extra caution when getting rid of smoking materials, which can easily ignite dry vegetation and create a fast-moving fire.

A fire ban is also in place for Lethbridge County.
