Councillor Jesse Potrie hopes to retain Coalhurst Council seat

Since 2015, Jesse Potrie has called Coalhurst home, along with his wife Melissa and four children.

Potrie is running once again for Coalhurst Town Council, as a Councillor candidate.

Over the past four years on Council, the candidate has learned good local government is built on teamwork, patience and clear communication.

Potrie believes there are three areas Coalhurst needs to focus on to continue moving forward, including economic development, seniors’ housing and recreation and community amenities.

“Coalhurst needs to diversify its tax base to reduce our reliance on residential property taxes,” Potrie notes. “With strategic planning and strong partnerships, we can create new opportunities that bring jobs, services and investment closer to home – while strengthening our long-term financial sustainability.”

Too often, Potrie adds, residents who have spent their lives in Coalhurst are forced to move away when their needs change. “I want to see this addressed through partnerships with developers and housing providers to create accessible, affordable options that allow our seniors to stay close to family, friends and familiar surroundings.”

According to the candidate, enhancing the Wetlands Park with trees, trails and amenities like a skate park is one step toward investing in community spaces, as Coalhurst grows.

“I’d also like to see progress on a library or multi-use community hub. These kinds of spaces strengthen our sense of community and make Coalhurst an even better place to live,” says Potrie.

Potrie notes with the right planning and partnerships, “we can strengthen our infrastructure, expand opportunities for business and recreation and continue to make this a community we’re all proud of.”

“I’m deeply grateful for the trust residents have placed in me. I hope to continue serving with the same collaboration, accountability and optimism that have guided my work so far.”
