Interfaith Food Bank named Top 100 charity for fourth straight year

For the fourth year in a row, the Interfaith Food Bank in Lethbridge has been recognized on the Top 100 Charities List by Charity Intelligence.

The list is determined by studying how charities in the country utilize donations and funds to help their communities, ensuring donors know where and how their gifts are being used.

The list began in 2014 and each year, only 100 charities earn the highest five-star rating.

Interfaith’s inclusion comes on the heels of being named a Top 10 Impact Food Bank for the last five years.

“It is an absolute honor to have our work recognized this way,” said Danielle McIntyre, executive director with Interfaith Food Bank.

“It speaks to the impact to the families we serve, and the return on investment to donors looking to ensure their donations are truly making a difference.”

McIntyre added, “We are particularly proud of this achievement as it was not a contest we applied for or competed in, but an independent assessment of our work as a charitable organization. It is also exciting to see so many food banks on this list, recognizing that not only is Food Security a huge issue right now, but that food banks are legitimate and reputable organizations deserving of community support.”

Some of the areas in which Charity Intelligence looks at when compiling its list include:

  • Financial transparency
  • Results reporting
  • Need for funding
  • Cents to the cause
  • Demonstrated impact

The Top 100 Charities List for 2026 is available on the Charity Intelligence website.

Officials said Interfaith Food Bank received its five-star rating due to its financial transparency, its reasonable overhead costs, and an above-average results reporting grade. For every dollar donated to Interfaith, 90 cents are available to go to the cause.
