Festive fun on-tap at the Lethbridge Public Library

It’s beginning to look a lot like December at the Lethbridge Public Library with plenty of festive family activities lined up.

Online Services Librarian Jennifer McDevitt says there’s a lot of fun stuff going on for the holiday season.

If you’re a parent and need somewhere to wrap presents away from prying eyes, look no further than Tinsel and Tape.

Send your kids to a drive-in movie, where they’ll build a cardboard box car and sit in it for a holiday film.

While your kids are occupied, use the library’s space to chill, wrap presents and eat snacks.

Tinsel and Tape will be held at the Crossings Branch Dec. 13 and at the Main Branch Dec. 20. Both events run from 12-5 p.m.

McDevitt notes kids of all ages can stay as long as parents would like them to. “The adults will be in a different room. If you don’t have kids, you can also come and wrap presents if you just need to get out of the house.”

“It’s a drop-in come and leave kind of thing,” McDevitt adds.

According to McDevitt, the Crossings Branch is also hosting Blizzards and Bricks.

Kids can build winter scenes out of Lego blocks and people can vote, notes McDevitt. “There’s different age brackets and they get a prize if they win.”

“You should come and check those out,” says McDevitt. “People can vote on their favourites.”

On Dec. 6, Experience Theatre will be hosting a staged play reading of Lenoire by Kayla Turnbull.

Audiences get a first look at the play and a chance to offer feedback directly to the playwright. The event will be held at the Main Branch from 1-3 p.m.

“If you’ve never heard of a stage reading, a playwright has written a draft. They’re ready to hear some feedback on it, so actors perform the play, as if they are performing it. They just read it, and the audience is invited to give feedback to help shape the script before it’s fully produced,” McDevitt explains.

McDevitt notes tickets are on sale now at both branches and online for the 2026 Banff Mountain Film Festival.

This year’s tour will feature a collection of the most inspiring action, environmental and adventure films.

The Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour returns to Lethbridge January 15-17, hosted by Lethbridge Public Library at the Yates Theatre.
