Christmas trees to be collected in Lethbridge this weekend

Lethbridge residents can get rid of their Christmas trees tomorrow.

On Saturday, January 10, the City hosts its annual Christmas tree collection program.

All residents need to do is ensure decorations like tinsel, plastics (including tree wraps and sheets), and stands are removed. Trees must be completely bare and ready to be chipped. No trees with decorations will be collected.

The trees must be placed at a resident’s usual curbside collection spot by 7 a.m. on Saturday. Volunteers will go around the city throughout the day, so residents are asked to leave their trees out all day.

The City notes that if your bare tree is not collected, you can contact 311. Any missed collections will be scheduled for Saturday, January 17.

LOCAL YOUTH HELP OUT

For the past three decades, the City has teamed up with local youth groups as part of the collection program.

Since beginning the initiative, over 1.5 million kilograms, or roughly 95,000 trees, have been diverted from the landfill.

Collected trees get turned into compost or mulched for residents and Parks staff to use.

More information is available on the City of Lethbridge website.
