Taber gathering feedback on future of recreation facilities

The Town of Taber is gathering feedback for future recreation plans in the community.

The southern Alberta municipality has a Recreation Facility Feasibility Study, which officials say will guide future planning for indoor recreation in town.

The study will look at long-term options for recreation space, which could include upgrading current facilities, or building new spaces as needed.

Residents have multiple options to share their thoughts, including:

  • A community group survey, open until March 30. This questionnaire is designed for local organizations and user groups with an interest in recreation facilities.
  • A community input workshop on Wednesday, March 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Community Centre Auditorium.
    • Drop-ins are welcome, but attendees are encouraged to RSVP ahead of time on the Town website.

The Town will also hold the following community engagement sessions:

  • Seniors Coffee and Cake: Set for Wednesday, March 25 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Parkside Manor, this event invites seniors to enjoy cake and share their priorities regarding recreational services in Taber.
  • Youth Pizza Party: Set for Wednesday, March 25 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Taber Library Program Room. Youth ages 10 to 17 can attend, as well as younger children with parental supervision. The event will include pizza and refreshments.
    • Those planning to attend who have dietary restrictions can inform the Facilitation Team at 780-267-7898 by March 24.

A ‘Pop-Up Engagement Station’ event is also planned for Friday, March 27 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. as part of the ‘PlayOn! Street Hockey Tournament’ in the Community Centre parking lot. Staff will be on hand to gather community feedback on recreation.

Those who cannot attend any of these events can still submit feedback, or have questions answered, by emailing Cassandra@expeditionconsulting.ca by March 30.
