Police seize prohibited firearm, drugs during Lethbridge traffic stop

Two men are facing multiple weapons charges after a traffic stop led to the seizure of a gun and drugs.

The Lethbridge Police Service said officers stopped a vehicle March 10 after observing it travelling erratically and the driver smoking from a drug pipe. Police initiated the stop in a south-side neighbourhood and arrested the driver and a passenger without incident.

Police said a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of an assault-style rifle prohibited in Canada and a loaded magazine, along with nearly 13 grams of methamphetamine, a small quantity of cocaine and a used drug pipe.

A 44-year-old man and a 40-year-old man, both from Lethbridge, are facing gun- and drug-related charges.

Both men were remanded in custody. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
