Lethbridge Polytechnic AUPE members to vote on new contract

Members of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees from Lethbridge Polytechnic are set to vote on a new tentative agreement this week.

According to the union, the tentative agreement includes four years of wage increases, with three per cent raises scheduled annually until 2027. This includes retroactive increases for 2024 and 2025, effective July 1, 2024, and July 1, 2025. Retroactive pay for current employees would be issued after ratification, while former employees would have 30 days following ratification to apply for retroactive compensation.

Other proposed changes in the collective agreement include special leave provisions adding two additional days, and bereavement language expanding eligibility for family members.

A letter of intent recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a paid day off through 2027 has also been included; however, it would not be embedded in the agreement.

According to AUPE officials, vacation accrual would be accelerated, starting at 15 days for those who have worked at the institution for up to five years, 20 days for up to 10 years, 25 days for up to 18 years and 30 days for those who have worked for the post-secondary institution for 19 years or more.

Changes to health-care benefits, flexible spending and the safety footwear allowance are also included in the collective agreement.

Members of Local 071 Chapter 001 will receive a voting email April 13, with voting open until 11:59 p.m. April 19.
