Police charge two people with weapon and drug-related offences

A Lethbridge man and woman have been charged with numerous weapon and drug-related offences, after Lethbridge Police officials say officers seized loaded firearms from a vehicle and westside home.

On Apr. 17, police initiated an investigation into a man believed to be illegally possessing firearms. The LPS said as the investigation progressed, the man and a woman were seen in a vehicle engaging in activity consistent with drug trafficking.

Members of the Critical Incident Team were called in to assist, and the suspects were arrested without incident in the alley behind Mt. Rundle Boulevard.

The LPS reported that a search of the vehicle led to the seizure of a loaded Sten submachine gun with a suppressor, a loaded sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun, approximately 210 grams of methamphetamine, 158 grams of cocaine, 160 synthetic opiate pills, and nearly $1,400 cash.

A search warrant was obtained for a residence along Mt. Rundle Boulevard, and police said they seized an additional loaded, sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun, a sawed off .22 Rutger rifle, and significant quantities of handgun and shotgun ammunition.
