ASIRT investigates injury during arrest

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after a 12 year old girl was reportedly injured while Lethbridge Police officers were making an arrest.

ASIRT says police were twice called to a home in the city on Saturday November 16th.

On the second visit a 33 year old woman, who had outstanding warrants, resisted arrest and a struggle ensued.

Her 12 year old daughter reportedly got involved and suffered minor injuries as a result.

Three days later, the girl went to police headquarters with a lawyer to report she’d been injured during her mother’s arrest.

ASIRT says the investigation will focus on the lawfulness of police actions during the course of the arrest.

LPS Chief Scott Woods issued a written statement Tuesday afternoon saying “I have complete confidence in the training and professionalism of our officers. Transparency is critical in maintaining public trust and we welcome the independent investigation by ASIRT.”
