‘Give it a Try’ event offers chance to try new sports ahead of 2026 Southern Alberta Summer Games

In preparation for the 2026 Southern Alberta Summer Games, the Lethbridge Sport Council hosts the two-day ‘Give it a Try’ event this month.

The Games are set for July 8-11 in the County of Forty Mile, Bow Island and Raymond, with registration now open.

Before that, community members are invited to try out some of the sports that will be featured at the Games on May 22 and 23 at Legacy Park in north Lethbridge.

“We’re hosting it at Legacy Park and it’s a free event for anyone to come try the sports, get a feel for [them], understand the rules and learn from people who know the sports very well,” said Abby Neudorf, community coordinator for the Lethbridge Sport Council.

Friday’s event will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and feature:

  • 3×3 basketball
  • Cornhole
  • Pickleball
  • Ball hockey

The Saturday event will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and feature:

  • Disc golf
  • Parasport Boccia
  • Track and Field
  • Beach volleyball

“We were thinking about sports that are kind of less common and have rules that you might not necessarily know,” Neudorf said, regarding the sports that were selected.

Attendance is free, but Neudorf said registration is encouraged. Sign-up can be done through the LSC website.
