Hurricanes acquire rights to forward Jake Stuart in three-team deal

The Lethbridge Hurricanes have made a three-team trade involving the Brandon Wheat Kings and Swift Current Broncos.

The Lethbridge club has acquired the WHL playing rights to 2007-born forward Jake Stuart and a fifth-round draft pick in the 2028 WHL Prospects Draft.

As part of the move, the Hurricanes have traded 2007-born forward Hudson Kibblewhite to the Broncos and a seventh-round pick in the 2028 WHL Draft to the Wheat Kings.

Swift Current also dealt 2007-born defenseman Josh McGregor to Brandon in the deal.

JAKE STUART

The 19-year-old Stuart was selected second overall by the Wheat Kings in the 2022 WHL US Priority Draft.

From Manhattan Beach, California, Stuart split the 2025-26 season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks and Sioux Falls Stampede in the United States Hockey League.

Over 51 regular season games, he scored six goals and had 10 assists, along with 31 penalty minutes. He also had one assist in eight post-season games, helping the Stampede get to the USHL Championship Series.

The forward has committed to the University of Denver and is the older brother of Hurricanes prospect Logan Stuart. He is also the son of former NHL defenseman Brad Stuart, who played for the Regina Pats and Calgary Hitmen.

HUDSON KIBBLEWHITE

The Hurricanes thanked Kibblewhite for his contributions to the team.

The 19-year-old from Vernon, British Columbia was originally acquired from the Saskatoon Blades in August of 2025.

He played in 53 regular season games, setting career highs in goals, assists and points. Kibblewhite finished sixth in Hurricanes scoring with 29 points (14 goals, 15 assists) and two penalty minutes. He finished fifth in goals while serving as alternate captain for the Lethbridge club.

Over the course of his WHL career, Kibblewhite has skated in 143 regular season games with the Blades and Hurricanes, scoring 27 goals and 24 assists, along with 14 penalty minutes.
