Summer milling, paving work to begin this week

Starting Tuesday, the City of Lethbridge’s milling and paving program kicks off.

The program is broken into three steps:

  1. Tree pruning and concrete repairs (if necessary): Before road construction begins, crews might be present to repair curbs and sidewalks and prune trees along the roadway. This work is done before milling and paving to keep the newly paved road smooth and intact.
  1. Milling: Crews will remove the existing asphalt from a section of road to prepare it for new asphalt.
  1. Paving: Crews will apply new asphalt to create a smooth driving surface.

“The timing of any lane reductions and road closures has also been planned to limit traffic impacts, but minor delays should still be expected in work areas. Unless otherwise indicated, construction will take place in both directions of the affected road,” the City noted.

Residents impacted by milling and paving in their area will be directly notified before work begins.

Motorists, especially motorcyclists, are urged to drive with caution, as road surfaces will be uneven following milling.

Stay up-to-date on road closures by checking the City’s Interactive WebMAP when planning a commute.
