New roundabout to be built in south Lethbridge, drivers advised of closure

Motorists are advised of upcoming construction on the south side of Lethbridge.

Starting Monday, June 15, work will begin on a new roundabout at the intersection of College Drive South and 28 Avenue/Tudor Boulevard South.

During the project, the intersection will be fully closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Officials noted that there will be no through access and detours will be in place.

Additionally, there could be temporary parking restrictions in the area.

Officials said the intersection is anticipated to reopen on August 7, but construction timelines may change depending on the weather.

LETHBRIDGE TRANSIT

Lethbridge Transit service on Route 2 Blue and Route 62 will be affected by the closure.

Officials said four stops along College Drive South and one stop on 28 Avenue South will be inactive during construction. Temporary bus stops will be set up on Scenic Drive South and 28 Street South. Transit users can review detours using the MyRide service.

The roundabout project is part of the City of Lethbridge’s 2026 Intersection Improvements Program, which aims to boost safety and traffic flow.

Work will include roadway reconstruction, upgraded street lighting, relocation of a bus stop, and landscaping restoration.

The City has released a video on how to navigate roundabouts, which is available on the CityofLethbridge YouTube channel.

Drivers are asked to reminder the following tips when driving through roundabouts, by way of the ‘SLOWERS’ acronym:

  • Slow down
  • Lane selection before entering
  • Observe crosswalks
  • Wait for circulating traffic
  • Enter when safe
  • Right signal to exit
  • Scan for pedestrians again
