Drivers heading east on Whoop-Up Drive and people using nearby river valley trails are being advised of temporary restrictions as electrical work gets underway.
According to City of Lethbridge officials, crews are expected to intermittently restrict a portion of the outside eastbound lane on Whoop-Up Drive beginning Wednesday, Sept. 2. The restrictions are expected to be in place daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Pedestrian access is also expected to be restricted on part of the Coal Banks Trail west of the Oldman River while the work is underway.
The restrictions are related to electrical work beneath the Whoop-Up Drive bridge, according to city officials.
A temporary access road is also planned from eastbound Whoop-Up Drive to provide construction equipment and crews with access to the river valley.
The City expects this phase of the work to be completed by Sept. 30, subject to weather conditions.
Motorists and pedestrians are being asked to obey posted signs and detours and use caution around the work zone.
Editor’s note: The specific Sept. 2 start date, daily closure hours, electrical conduit work, temporary access road and Sept. 30 completion date should be confirmed against the latest City of Lethbridge construction notice before publication. The City has confirmed ongoing construction and pedestrian restrictions in the Whoop-Up Drive and Oldman River area, but the specific details above could not be independently verified in the City material reviewed.
