Lethbridge Bulls fall 8-4 to Brooks Bombers Wednesday night

Despite a quick start, the Lethbridge Bulls couldn’t hold off the Brooks Bombers Wednesday night, falling 8-4 at Spitz Stadium.

Bernie Soccaras got Lethbridge on the board first with a solo shot over the batting cages behind the right field fence.

In the bottom of the second, Luke Wheatley smashed a high line drive over the scoreboard in left field for a two-run shot and Carter Claerhout picked up an RBI single.

Brooks would rally for five runs in the top of the fifth inning. After a hit by pitch and a single, Lethbridge was one out away from getting through the inning unscathed, but Maverick McAllister, Daylon Jefcoats, Ben Simmons, Andrew Bain and Asahi Nakano each picked up RBI singles in the frame.

In the top of the eighth, Brooks added three more runs thanks to a two-run triple off the bat of Zack Bretza and an infield single for McAllister.

Owen Fernandes started on the mound for the Bombers and worked four innings of four-run ball on four hits. He walked two batters and struck out six.

Aiden Maxwell earned the win, pitching a scoreless bottom of the fifth inning. He walked two batters and struck out one.

For Lethbridge, Noah Simpson took the loss on the mound. He threw six innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits. He walked two batters and punched out three.

The Bulls’ next home game is Friday night, when they welcome the Okotoks Dawgs to Spitz Stadium. The two teams will finish a suspended game from Tuesday that was tied at 2-2 in the top of the sixth inning at 5 p.m. The regularly scheduled nine inning contest will be played shortly afterwards. Tickets can be found on the Lethbridge Bulls website.
