It’s been a roarrrrrring 30 years for the Devil’s Coulee Dinosaur Museum in Warner.
Founded in 1987, the museum is the first dinosaur nesting site found in Canada.
“We give tours at the nesting site, as well as tours of our museum where you actually get to touch real fossils,” says tour guide Birdie Petruic.
One of Devil’s Coulee’s 30th Anniversary events is a Night at the Museum July 9 from 6-8 p.m.
“We invite everyone to come in their pajamas and look around our museum with their flashlights. There will be shadow puppets made with some of our skulls and fossils in our museum, as well as just allowing you to tour our museum in an interesting way that’s different than how most people have ever toured a museum,” noted Petruic.
Any child in their pajamas will also get a sticker.
Another special anniversary event being held is a fossil sunset tour in August.
“We also do tours every Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. We do two tours out to the nesting site daily,” Petruic added. “If there’s rain or anything, we won’t be able to guarantee a tour for our site, but our indoor tour also covers a lot of our fossils and a lot of what was found out at our site.”
According to Petruic, children are still obsessed with dinosaurs just as much as ever. “With modern technology and a modern understanding of dinosaurs, our understanding of dinosaurs gets better everyday.”
“That’s one of the reasons why I suggest going to a dinosaur museum at least once every two years. To learn what has changed and what we know, because it’s always evolving,” said Petruic.
