LPS teams up with YMCA for upcoming fraud prevention information sessions

The community can learn more about fraud prevention at two upcoming information sessions in Lethbridge.

The Lethbridge Police Service’s Economic Crimes Unit is teaming up with the Cor Van Raay YMCA to host two free sessions on Thursday, Oct. 22.

“Over the last 10 years, incidents of fraud in our community have doubled,” said Sergeant Tanner Hansen of the LPS Economic Crimes Unit.

“To combat this growing problem – and the technology that facilitates it – we’re working to support our community through innovative fraud investigations, strong community partnerships and proactive education.”

Hansen added, “These information sessions are an important part of that work, helping residents gain the knowledge and tools they need to recognize fraud, protect their personal information and support friends and family members who may be vulnerable to scams.”

The LPS said the sessions are open to everyone and will focus on current fraud trends, common scams, identity theft prevention and practical strategies to help community members protect themselves and their loved ones from becoming victims.

Two identical sessions will be offered on Oct. 22, both taking place in the Select People Solutions Meeting Room at the Cor Van Raay YMCA.

The first session will be from 2 to 3 p.m., with the second from 7 to 8 p.m.

Those interested in attending are asked to register ahead of time and can do so through the LPS website.
