Lethbridge County puts call out for BMO Farm Family Awards nominations

Nominations remain open for the 2027 BMO Farm Family Awards.

Each year, at the Calgary Stampede, awards are distributed to one outstanding farm family in each municipal district south of Red Deer.

Lethbridge County said its Agricultural Service Board handles nominations for this region, as municipalities are responsible for submitting their selected family. Over the past several years, Lethbridge County has asked the community to help with that selection process.

The nominations are open until 11:45 p.m. on Oct. 31, 2026, and can be submitted online, by calling 403-328-5525 or in-person at the county office in downtown Lethbridge.

Criteria for nominations includes:

  • The nominated family must be active in primary agriculture or agri-food, have agriculture or agri-food as their main source of income, and have members residing on the farm.
  • The farm must be located in Lethbridge County.
  • The family should be actively involved in their community, in addition to their contribution to agriculture.

The Agricultural Service Board will review the nominations and select one recipient at its Nov. 24 meeting.

“Farm families are at the heart of Lethbridge County, and this is a great time to recognize both their contributions to agriculture, as well as dedication to their communities,” said board chair Eric Van Essen.

“Lethbridge County is Alberta’s most productive agricultural municipality, and we want to celebrate the farm families who truly power our local economy.”

The selected family will be celebrated at the Farm Family Award Ceremonies at the 2027 Calgary Stampede.

“We’re encouraging anyone who knows a farm family that makes a difference in Lethbridge County to submit a nomination, so we can recognize them on one of Alberta’s biggest stages – the Calgary Stampede,” added Van Essen.

Further details are available on the Stampede website.
