Standardized hours coming to Lethbridge’s Waste and Recycling Centre

Operating hours are set to change for Lethbridge’s Waste and Recycling Centre.

The City said that beginning Nov. 1, the site will switch to standardized hours, and will be open year-round, Mondays to Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As part of the 2027 Operating Budget, city council approved scrapping the extended summer hours at the facility.

Officials noted that this change will save $82,000 in the operating budget.

The City said that historically, the Waste and Recycling Centre has cycled between seasonal hours during the summer and winter months, offering extended hours – open until 7 p.m. – in the summer due to the longer days. Then in the winter, the facility would go back to normal hours and close at 5 p.m.

Officials believe the standardized hours will provide more consistency for residents and customers and make it easier to plan visits and remember when the centre is open.

In June, council unanimously approved the 2027 Operating Budget, which includes over 40 budget reductions from City of Lethbridge departments. Officials said these initiatives will help residents save money by minimizing property tax and utility rate increases.
