Milk River residents advised of Emergency Department closures next week

MILK RIVER, AB- Milk River residents in need of an Emergency Department over a few days next week will have to go to Lethbridge instead.

Alberta Health Services issued a notice Friday, Dec. 31 saying there won’t be any doctors available to staff the Milk River ER from 8am Monday to 8am Tuesday; 5pm Tuesday to 8am Wednesday; or 5pm Thursday to 8am Friday.

Nurses will still be on site to care for inpatients and AHS says it’s working hard to ensure residents can still get the care they need.

People in Milk River can still call 911 if they have a medical emergency but EMS will be re-routed to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

A similar closure was in effect over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
