Body found in southern Alberta canal

UPDATE:

The RCMP can confirm that the deceased man located Monday morning in the Spring Hill Canal is Joseph Given of Calgary.

In collaboration with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary, the RCMP continue to investigate this death.   There is no indication that this is a criminal investigation, and there will be no further updates.

Background:

RCMP in Brooks say a man’s body was found this week in a canal, however there’s nothing suspicious regarding his death.

Early Tuesday, the Brooks Fire Department was conducting a search and found the body in the Spring Hill Canal, just west of that southern Alberta town.

The man has not been identified yet. It’s believed however, the person found is likely a Calgary man who went missing last Friday.

Police had issued an advisory saying 25 year old Joseph Given was missing after a truck he was driving was found submerged in the ravine.

RCMP will provide an update when more information is available.
