House fire claims life of 50 year old Lethbridge man

A house fire in south Lethbridge has claimed the life of one person.

Lethbridge Police say early Saturday morning,  at about 1:30am, fire fighters from all four stations were called to a home along the 600 block of 5 Street South.

When they arrived, firefighters found no visible fire with limited smoke coming from the door to the basement.

Crews entered and found heavy smoke with a small amount of flames, which were quickly extinguished.

A 50 year old man, who was found inside, was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital in life threatening condition and later died from his injuries.

A dog was also found dead inside the home.

The fire remains under investigation.

Damage is estimated at approximately $200,000.
