On Friday the city plans to kick off the summer season by turning on the taps to the local spray parks.
According to City of Lethbridge officials, the splash season will kick off at 12 p.m. Friday. This includes Legacy Spray Park and Rotary Centennial Fountain in Galt Gardens; Gyro Spray Park will remain closed for the season with the only exception being on days when the temperature reaches a minimum of 30 degrees Celsius. This decision to open Gyro Spray Park will be made the day before at 3 p.m. based on Environment Canada’s forecast.
Legacy Spray Park will be open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Rotary Fountain will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. According to the city, based on community needs or weather conditions these times may change.
According to a release from the city, “Most of the water at Legacy and Rotary is cleaned and recycled. That is not the case at Gyro.” The release goes on to explain, that because of the voluntary water restrictions that are still in place, limiting the hours Gyro Spray Park is open will help the city continue to conserve water.
The spray parks will remain open until the Labour Day long weekend or for as long as the weather allows into September and are free of charge.
