A brush with art highlighted at new community art showcase

Artwork from local community partners will be on display at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery Maansiksikaitsitapiitsinikssin.

The showcase includes artwork by members of the Lethbridge Modern Quilt Guild and participants from Lethbridge Family Services’s outreach programming, as well as Recovery Alberta’s “A Brush with Art” program.

Gallery Associate Curator Adam Whitford says over the years the gallery has worked with different community organizations needing space, materials, or assistance in their artistic programming as part of the ongoing commitment to be more accessible and inclusive to the community. ”

“After years of art-making by members of these groups, we are pleased to celebrate the unique artistic voices of the participating artists by assembling their recent works for this Community Showcase,” Whitford says.

Therapy Assistant with Recovery Alberta’s A Brush With Art Program Annalise Durrant says being able to offer a local art program has given those in need a means of expression, healing, and personal growth.

“The chance to have their artwork displayed in a professional gallery is both exciting and deeply validating for them. We are very grateful for our partnership with the Southern Alberta ArtGallery,” Durrant says. “The Gallery’s generosity and support have brought meaningful opportunities and encouragement to those we serve in the community.”

The showcase will run until July 26th.
