A big feather in cap for Lethbridge’s Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden.
The popular local tourist attraction is the recipient of this year’s Top 10 North American Gardens Worth Travelling For Award.
The honour was presented this week at a conference on Vancouver Island.
Michelle Day, Nikka Yuko’s Executive Director, says this is a significant achievement especially to be recognized alongside other major gardens such as the University of Alberta’s Botanic Garden and Butchart Gardens in Victoria.
“Our team is small, but mighty, so it’s a huge honour to be on the same stage as these other larger gardens,” says Day. “Also be recognized as a leader in garden tourism. It goes to show that our hard work is paying off and gives us more opportunities to attract travellers from around the world to Lethbridge.”
As garden tourism continues to grow, Nikka Yuko is also in the process of constructing a new building, which is set to open in the spring of 2021.
Day notes this award comes in perfect timing with the announcement of Nikka Yuko’s fourth annual Winter Light Festival, which will open November 29th.
