Coaldale opens new Civic Square building

The town of Coaldale has officially opened its new Civic Square building, which is home to the town office and council chambers. The town held a grand opening ceremony on June 17 to celebrate the building’s completion.

“In the process of making Civic Square become a reality, we have seen our community come together, hand in hand, united in a common goal,” said mayor Jack Van Rijn. “We have witnessed the strength that emerges when people set aside personal agendas and work towards a greater good.”

The town office will host administration staff and the town says the new council chambers include modern audio-visual technology, which will make it easy for the public to engage in hearings and attend council meetings.

There is also a large atrium to host community gatherings which includes photos of Coaldale’s history and more than 200 living plants.

The first council meeting to be in the new venue is on June 26.

“We couldn’t be more excited to start holding our meetings in the new chambers and hope that town residents make it a habit of coming or tuning in to watch,” Van Rijn said.
